Norton Internet Security 2010 was released on 24 August, 2009. Its major features included strong password manager, family guard, and antispyware (with LiveUpdate). Norton Researcher detected malware, although it may have been only a piece of spyware. LiveSafe used multiple components to scan the computer's exposed areas, including network traffic, email, form filling, system files, and clipboard. Its backend used Nessus to scan the internet for weak passwords and to check for open ports on the Windows Firewall. If a scan found a password or opened a port, Norton Safe Web looked for signed in webpages. It checked for spyware with a test for the presence of files on the system or on the hard disk. Once it found a spyware file, it removed it from the computer. Family Guide provided parents an overview of programs on the computer and configurable security guidelines for various age groups. This helped parents to monitor what children can and cannot do on the computer. Antispyware was enhanced. Though Norton also released a free security suite, many thought that it did not perform well enough. This was because Norton relied on third-party antivirus engines. These often failed or were removed from the Windows operating system. Some believed that if Norton had the co-operation of Microsoft's Windows security team, it could improve its performance. In June 2007, Symantec promised to develop a better Norton Antivirus Client Suite. Users who did not want Norton Internet Security could download the freeware version that bundled with the homepage of the day's most popular social websites. They could also use a free update for the version of the website on their computer. Although lower ranked in antivirus rankings for 2007, Symantec's Invincea was not bundled with Norton Internet Security. It has since been replaced by Norton 360.
Versions of the software are named after numbers in the monadic series yonaha (meaning "one of two") _. The first version was created by Symantec in 1995 for the Mac OS and the second version was created for Windows in 1996. d2c66b5586
