Vinogradov says, “As a portrait photographer, my goal is to work alongside the client to make sure that the final portraits are comfortable, fun, and not overwhelming. In the end, I want the subject to feel at home and look natural.”
Much of Vinogradov’s work consists of headshots and portrait sessions. I wanted to find out what he thought were the best lighting and posing strategies to ensure a successful, natural portrait.
So, I sent Vinogradov a short list of headshots and posed portraits, and asked him to talk about the lighting and posing strategy behind each one. I picked the best headshots and posed portraits from his portfolio for this article, and also asked him about his processes in general.

He was a real artist, and the way he moved was really appealing. When I shot my first portrait with a D810, I was blown away. I shot six or seven more, and the response to them was so much better. I decided to work on street photography full-time.
